Inspirational People

If you were to take a look at my Facebook, there’s a particular section that might worry you, specifically the section of people who inspire me.  I mean, it’s just got some perfectly reasonable human beings.  Martin Luther.  Jeffrey Dahmer.  David Berkowitz.  Wait, what?  Did I just seriously put The Milwaukee Cannibal and The Son of Sam on a list of people who inspire me?  Well yes I did.

These are two of the most famous serial killers of our time.  To many, they are the embodiment of evil.  So what makes them so inspiring?  It’s that Christ forgave them.  These wicked evil men, men so evil that society deems them worse than the devil himself, were given repentance and faith through Jesus Christ.  And if Jesus can bring them to salvation, he can do the same for me.

  1. Greg Eilers says:

I knew about Dahmer, but not the Son of Sam, and have used him, many times, as an example of God’s love and grace in Christ. I say, “If Jeffrey Dahmer can be saved, there is hope for me, the chief of sinners!”

Excellent, Brad, as is your April 29 piece. Hard stuff to proclaim, but straight up God’s Word.

    • Thanks for the comments, Greg. I really appreciate them. Yeah, David Berkowitz is saved and runs a prison ministry. I’m thinking of writing to him some day to discuss theology with him. I don’t think he has access to a lot of resources. In his book, he has good things to say about Joel Osteen for example. On the other hand, he’s a follower of Calvary Chapel and the late Chuck Smith and although I take issue with some of their teaching, they are light years ahead of Joel Osteen.
